Dusti Scovel was named Chief Executive Officer by the De Baca Family Practice Clinic Board of Directors in April, 2008.  Ms. Scovel has an extensive background in business management, writing and administration of federal, state and private grants and more than twenty years in public relations and marketing. Dusti is a published writer, having written for a number of national publications before taking this position and has been active on many community and regional Boards.

A native Texan, Ms. Scovel and her husband, artist Mike Scovel, moved from the Austin area to Fort Sumner in 2008.  Between visiting the New Mexico wineries and tending to their own tiny vineyard, the Scovels find plenty of time to spend with their thirteen grandchildren.

jack Vick, md

Dr. Vick grew up in Fort Sumner and worked in the hospital before it closed in 2001.  In October of 2008 when the Medical Director's position opened up, the administration and staff wasted little time in recruiting Dr. Vick back to his hometown from Albuquerque.  It was our lucky day when he agreed to return.  His calm, personable approach to healthcare fits our patients just fine.  Dr. Vick is a Certified Family Practitioner who also performs a broad range of dermatology procedures. 

Dr. Vick is an avid motocross racer. He and wife, Joanie, enjoy visiting wineries and vineyards in the US, France and Italy.

Kay Caraway has been with De Baca Family Practice Clinic since 2006 and has quietly and graciously evolved into one of the area's favorite providers.  Kay's gentle spirit and compassion for her patients is unmatched.  She specializes in Women's Health, and Diabetic and Hypertension management.

Before moving to the lush Fort Sumner valley, Kay practiced for many years in Muleshoe, Texas, and still has patients who travel to Fort Sumner to see her.  She and her rancher husband, Alan, enjoy the animals on their Valley ranch and are very active in our community. 

Howard Rhoads, dds

Dr. Rhoads took over the reins of Dental Director in March 2009 after twenty five years in private practice.    Dr. Rhoads performs a broad range of dental services including root canals, extractions and oral surgery.  He has quickly earned a reputation in our area as a top shelf dentist and sees patients from many of the surrounding counties as well as those from De Baca County. 

Dr. Rhoads and his wife, Cindy, moved from the mountains of Afton, Wyoming, to the high desert of Eastern New Mexico where they find much more time to ride their motorcycles.

Susan Vick spent six years in the Clinic's billing department; the last three as Billing Manager before taking the position of CFO in 2009.  A native of Fort Sumner and graduate of New Mexico State University, Susan spent several years in merchandise management for K-Mart and American Greetings before moving back home to the Fort Sumner area. 

Susan and her husband, Jacob, live near Melrose. Susan is a very active competitor in the Women's Rodeo and has competed at the national level.  She and Jacob have a six year old son, Jett, who attends school in Fort Sumner.
